Finding balance in autumn with Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been around for over 2,000 years. At its core, TCM is about balance and flow. It views the body as an interconnected system powered by Qi (pronounced as “chee”), which is essentially your life force or energy. This Qi travels through channels called meridians, which are connected to your organs, emotions and even elements (like earth, wood, water, metal and fire). When your Qi flows freely, you feel incredible. But when it’s blocked? That’s when issues like fatigue or physical aches can show up.

Through energetic massage and acupressure, I work with these meridians to help unblock your Qi. Unlike regular massage, energetic massage is about activating your body’s energy flow while releasing physical tension. Acupressure, which uses gentle pressure on specific points along the meridians, is like acupuncture but without the needles. It helps ease pain, improve circulation and give you that “ahh” feeling as everything starts flowing again :)

Elements

Each season in TCM is tied to specific organs and emotions and autumn is all about the lungs and the element of metal. While we are in the very last bit of autumn I have been wanting to write more about it. This season is a time to let go, whether it’s actual clutter (cleaning your house is never a bad idea, but now is the moment) or emotional baggage. Feeling stuck, sad or unmotivated in autumn? That could be your lungs trying to tell you something! Energetic massage and acupressure during this time can help release tension, improve your breathing and give your energy a much-needed boost. Plus, it’s a great way to de-stress and reset as we transition into the colder months.

Want to give your lungs a little love? Try this:

Find the Lung 1 point: It’s located on your chest, about an inch below your collarbone and slightly towards your shoulder. Gently press this point with your fingers for 1 or 2 minutes while taking slow, deep breaths. This can help release tension and improve your energy flow, plus, it just feels great!

TCM doesn’t just treat symptoms, it looks at the whole picture and I think that’s the beauty of it. Whether you’re dealing with physical pain, emotional stress or just need a recharge, treatments like energetic massage and acupressure can help you find your balance again.
